Asher's Favorite Things

It is late Saturday evening, and we are sitting around, having just watched "I Am Legend." It was a surpisingly good movie. Saturday Night Live is on now with John McCain as the surprise guest. He is really funny! Sarah's parents were here for two days, but they are gone now. It was a very short visit, but we had a good time. They arrived on Thursday afternoon, and we stayed around the house that night and grilled Iowa pork chops (a regular pork chop, but thick as a family Bible). On Friday, Sarah and I went to work and Asher got to spend the whole day with the grandparents. He had a blast, taking them to all the best playgrounds. Last night, Sarah and I got to go out on a date, all by ourselves! We went and ate some great Thai food, the first we've had in Iowa (why is this blog always about food?).



This morning, we all went down to the farmer's market in downtown Des Moines. I told Asher we were going to the farmer's market, and he got exited that he was going to see cows. He got so upset when I told him there were no cows, that we had to start calling it the City Market. It really is a huge farmers market, even this early in the year. It goes for block after block down Court Avenue and several side streets. We ate Dutch Letters and enjoyed the sunshine and the crowds (it was packed). On the Court Avenue bridge, they were having a Police/Fire/Military day. Asher got to actually sit in a firetruck, a few different police cars, a bombsquad truck, a police command center truck, a hostage negotiating truck (with a pot of coffee brewing inside, like in the movies), a SWAT armored assault vehicle, and even an Army Blackhawk helicopter that had landed in the middle of the bridge. He was beyond excited, although McGruff scared him.


We loved having Sarah's parents here. Asher is especially going to miss them. He got so much attention!
