jungle rescue

It is a humid, rainy week on the plains. We are busy, but definitely looking forward to our big vacation to Maine next week. There is a lot that needs to happen before then. On Saturday, though, I am judging a bbq contest in State Center, Iowa. Like you might expect, it is right in the middle of Iowa, about 60 miles northeast of us. I'm excited about this contest. If Sarah is feeling OK, she and Asher might go there with me to enjoy the parade and some of the other events going on. Sarah has been feeling much worse than she did while carrying Asher, and we hope that phase will be passing soon. Last Saturday, we went for a long drive in the country, looking for a "farm crawl" (an open house at multiple small farms), but looking for it a day early. I guess I still have the Utah mindset that things aren't scheduled for Sunday. All was not lost, though, since it was a pretty day for a drive, with dramatic clouds but no rain or wind. We headed back to the "metro" area, and went fishing in the Des Moines River backwater below Saylorville Dam. It was a kind of frustrating day of fishing, with large fish jumping all around us, but only a couple of nibbles on our lines. It was a nice day, though. When Asher got tired of fishing, we were able to explore the dense "jungle" of 10 foot willows on the spit of land where we were fishing. We pretended to be animal rescuers, looking for a tiger and a river otter. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Asher
