A trace to an inch?
I have noticed there are two phases to every winter. During the first part, the local TV piles on the hype for every storm, no matter how insignificant. All programming is interrupted by "Operation WinterStorm 2008", with constantly looping doppler radar, and three seperate crawls across the bottom of the screen with school and church closings. At some point during mid-winter, however, the hype runs out. All the over-excitement and "multiple reporters on the scene around the metro!" noise is put away until tornado season. Snow comes whenever, and is pretty much ignored. We have hit the second phase of this winter
Yesterday, the news forecasted a trace of snow, and sunshine today. Since then, it has been snowing steadily, with several inches of heavy accumulation. I just came in from shoveling, and I have officially worn out my trusty snow shovel. What was once a proud, top-of-the-line warrior of the Utah powder is now a busted, bent, defeated, floppy sadsack of a shovel.
We had a long-awaited date night last night. Asher stayed with a sitter, and we went out to a comedy club with a bunch of people from Sarah's work. The comedians (Bob Biggerstaff and Jim Short) were hilarious, and it was a fun time.
Other than that, not much has happened around here. We did lose power the other day, and for most of the night. Since it was around zero degrees outside, we considered just going to a hotel, but it would have been a bit of a hassle with the dogs and everything. We ended ended up just getting the candles, flashlights and sleeping bags out, and doing the little house on the prairie thing. The power came on during the night, which was a very good thing, because it was getting cold!
Here are a few more pictures of Sarah and Asher's trip to the Burgh:
