Easter Eggs, Easter Lake, and Easter

Happy Easter! It is a cloudy, mild evening in Iowa. We just finished an Easter meal of smoked Iowa pork chops, grilled sweet potatoes, and salad. It has been a good Easter weekend! Yesterday, we headed to our church for the big neighborhood Easter Egg hunt. The egg hunt is a big event for the church and for the whole surrounding neighborhood, the area near Drake University. There were over 200 kids there! Here is a video some friends took. Asher was not in an aggressive enough mood to get a lot of eggs. In just a couple minutes, a few thousand eggs disappeared from the front lawn. Here are Sarah and Asher getting ready. After the egg hunt, it was time for our first family fishing excursion of 2009. Due to the date, we just had to go to Easter Lake! It was a pretty day at the lake. The fish weren't biting, but Asher found lots of crawdad claws, which he called "little lobster snappers". Mostly, we just relaxed and enjoyed the day. After a while at the lake, it was time to go somewhere where the fish are always biting... The zoo! Don't worry, we just fed them. This morning, Asher awoke to find a new Spiderman beach bucket with a note from the Easter bunny, telling him to follow the trial of eggs. The eggs led downstairs to Asher's Easter basket, filled with tons of candy, a stuffed dinosaur dressed as a bunny, a puzzle, flashcards, and a new kite. He was incredibly excited. We headed to church, which was at Roosevelt High School for Easter Sunday. It was a wonderful, meaningful Easter service. Right after church, Asher was in the high school cafeteria and fell off a chair. He hit his mouth hard on the way down, splitting open his lip and giving him a bloody nose. His lip bled for a long time, and is now swollen and purple. It will heal before long, though. This afternoon, we got out the kites and went to the park. We had a blast flying kites and playing on the playground. By the way, I have pretty much quit my major Diet Coke habit. Just don't try to take away my giant ice tea.

Happy Easter! Looks like you all has a wonderful day! And you know that you would fit right in here in North Kackilacky with that iced tea habit. Although here it is "Sweet'tea" I think that means that you all should come here for a visit. Between your love for sweettea and bbq, I think it is only right.
love to you all!
