It is a warm, summer-like night in Iowa. I am up late watching the Jazz try to stay alive against the Lakers. Tonight, we went to the Iowa Cubs baseball game and had a blast. It was one of those perfect evenings that just seem made for baseball. A solid shutout victory for the Cubbies made it even better.
Asher's favorite part of the game tonight was the plaza above the right field wall. He had a great time running around the fountain out there with the other kids, and looking down on the field from the fence above the scoreboard.
The weather here, as I mentioned, has turned very nice. Last weekend, on the other hand, was cold and rainy. We did take a Friday night drive around Madison County (yes, home of the bridges). I bet you didn't know Madison County has tunnels, too!
We stopped for some bad Mexican Food in Winterset, and saw the farmland and the woods starting to show the signs of spring. We found a campground we wanted to check out soon. Unfortunately, it looks like heavy thunderstorms for us this weekend, so camping is probably not in the cards.
Also last weekend, I went to hear a lecture by Dan Kaercher. Among other things, he hosts a PBS series on travel in the Midwest. His TV show has been a favorite of mine since we moved here, because it shows all the interesting places to visit around this part of the country, places that are otherwise pretty much ignored.
Here is a video of him visiting beautiful Des Moines, and also a history farm place that is a couple miles from our house. The lecture was interesting, he told his story and also gave some travel tips for places to go inside Iowa.
We also did some fishing last weekend, and went to a Sunday afternoon I-Cubs game. That game was much colder and windier than tonight's.
