It is a snowy Saturday night in Iowa. We just had some tasty leftover turkey sandwiches. Thanksgiving was nice. Even though it was just the three of us, we had the full spread. That left us with plenty of leftovers to enjoy, including Sarah's famous turkey squares.
The weather has been sunny and mild, at least for late November. Because of this, we thought we could do one last day of fishing, the kind that doesn't involve using the ice auger. We were mistaken. Asher was so excited about going fishing that he was literally yelling "yippee!!!" and "yeeehaw!!" We drove to our favorite kid friendly fishing spot (a county conservation park), and discovered all the ponds were completely frozen. This was very disappointing. Thankfully, there are some elk and bison in enclosures at the end of the road. We were able to get within a few feet of the bison ("bisons?") I really like bison.
As we were leaving, we noticed an area of open water around a point in Saylorville Lake, where the waves and the wind had prevented the ice from forming. We figured we could do some fishing there, so we went down and set up our chairs and fishing gear. That's when it started to snow. The snow, the wind and the cold cut our fishing short before too long. Asher did get to fish, and we got the experience of watching three bald eagles fishing, perched on a floating chunk of ice out in the lake.
