It is a stormy Tuesday night on the Plains. We have been in reality-show world tonight (not living one, just watching a lot of them). We had an eventful weekend, though. On Saturday morning, we headed to the Omaha area. I was judging at a BBQ contest in Council Bluffs, on the Iowa side of the river. Sarah and Asher dropped me off at the contest, then went to visit Sarah's Grandma Dodi.
The contest was a blast The BBQ was pretty tasty, and the judging and conversation were fun. It was held in a pretty square in downtown Council Bluffs. Council Bluffs has a lot of black squirrels, and they are extremely proud of them. In fact it is illegal to
"annoy, worry, maim, injure or kill a black squirrel." Hopefully, the same doesn't apply for black squirrel statues.
Across the street from the BBQ contest was the Union Pacific Railroad Museum. Since we love trains, we had to check it out. It is a pretty cool museum, full of railroad memorabilia.
Sarah even got to hang out with Bing!
After the train museum, we headed to downtown Omaha to see the new footbridge over the Missouri River. It is a really cool bridge, with an unusual S-shape.
We walked over into Iowa and back to Nebraska over the bridge. They
(wikipedia) say it's the only pedestrian-only bridge that connects two states. Here's Sarah with the city of Omaha, her birthplace, in the background.
